methods

  • CBT is a widely researched and evidence-based therapy that addresses the interplay of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In therapy, we would seek to uncover unhelpful thinking patterns and work together to evoke change within your thought life. We would also focus on the behaviors you are engaging in that may be causing you to feel stuck. We would also learn about the role of emotions in your life to help you know how to respond to them in helpful, caring ways.

  • ACT is a therapy based in traditional behavioral therapy and CBT, but is focused on accepting unwanted, uncomfortable inner experiences in order to live a more values-committed life. In ACT, there are six core processes and many different skills and metaphors that promote psychological flexibility: building a meaningful life no matter what shows up internally. We could sum up ACT with this: Be present, open up, and do what matters.

  • I-CBT is an evidence-based therapy specifically designed to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In I-CBT, we address the faulty reasoning process behind obsessional doubt (“What if” “Could be”, etc.) that leads to compulsions in OCD. I-CBT is presented in the format of 12 different modules which build on each other and help sufferers of OCD resolve their obsessional doubt by staying connected to direct evidence in the here and now. You can learn more about this approach on the I-CBT website here: https://icbt.online/

  • ERP is used for the treatment of all types of anxiety disorders. It seems counter-intuitive, but the more you avoid scary thoughts or stimuli, the bigger these fears become and likely, the smaller your life becomes. In ERP, we work together to help you approach your fears in a meaningful way through exposure exercises, and then work on changing your response to what shows up internally. ERP may sound intimidating at first, but in my experience, it leads to significant progress and can even be fun!
